Aquamaster exceeded our expectations from day one. The crew was punctual, courteous, and walked us through every step of the process. They treated our home with care, and now our basement is completely dry. Highly recommend!
Great service by a great team of technicians
We paid for APP to diagnose our damp problem. APP failed to inspect the entire property, stopping at internal stud walls and ignoring some walls entirely. They outrightly refused to analyse the workmanship of the injected chemical Damp Proof Course (DPC) which was installed a few years ago and was supposed to have eliminated the damp issue we paid APP to diagnose. APP did identified that the chemical DPC had been bridged by the plaster but, for reasons unknown, refused to comment on the DPC itself. Our own research determined that the DPC was not installed in accordance with the product instructions. The holes were drilled less than half way through an 18 inch thick wall (instructions say to go almost all the way through the wall) and were drilled into the brick rather than the mortar. The DPC would be ineffective regardless of whether or not it was breached. Analysing previous damp-proofing work is fundamental to determining why there's still damp as well as the scope of any remedial work required. APP were aware that previous work had been undertaken when they quoted. APP failed to identify sources of water ingress and, furthermore, failed to notice drains, downpipes and drainage channels that were poorly maintained and/or designed. Such observations are required in accordance with the British Standards Code of Practice and the PCA Code of Practice for diagnosing damp. A survey by a second company identified sources of water ingress and evidenced defects in the guttering, downpipes, drainage channels and drains. The wettest wall in the property is adjacent to a downpipe which was identified by the second surveyor as defective. Water just runs down the outside wall (see picture attached). Furthermore, the downpipe empties into a void which is paved over and is therefore inaccessible. Water (through the use of a hose pipe) was observed to be pooling against the fabric of the building. Mortar had also been heavily eroded where the downpipe ends before reaching the drain. APP did not flag any of these areas as possible causes of damp conditions, contrary to British Standards Code of Practice and did not identify the drain or downpipe to be poorly designed and/or maintained, contrary to the PCA Code of Practice. Incidentally, when we asked APP to evidence rising damp above the chemical DPC, the surveyor showed us a meter reading (see photo attached) about 3 meters above ground level. Rising damp doesn't go this high. This area of damp is adjacent to the faulty downpipe and drain. It is clearly penetrating damp. APP refused to evidence any other meter readings at this point. We informed APP, from the outset, that the issue manifested itself after a very wet July and in an area adjacent to a downpipe/drain. The potential for a link was obvious. All APP had to say in their defence was "we're not drainage surveyors". APP were on site for no more than an hour, and their only tool was a damp meter. The second company had telescopic rods to look into gutters, endoscopes and a whole host of other equipment. They were on site for four hours and were much more knowledgeable about damp than APP, despite not being a member of the PCA (for context, APP claims that they are more qualified than other companies by virtue of being a member). It so happens that the second company don't do remedial work themselves nor do they recommend anyone. An honest review can be assured. I think APP just wanted to sell us stuff. APP have refused to answer any follow up queries since we made our frustrations apparent. They have not surveyed the entire property. They continue to refuse to offer an opinion on the effectiveness of previous damp proofing work. They failed to identify very obvious sources of water ingress. They failed to identify poorly maintained and designed drains/downpipes etc. They also continue to refuse to refund us. My recommendation would be to avoid this company.
APP fitted internal insulation lining on two bay windows for us. They were prompt and efficient at all points through the process. The work was carried out to a good standard in the time indicated; the people doing the work were professional throughout. Overall we were very pleased.
This was a lovely firm to deal with. All the staff were friendly and very helpful and did a wonderful job for us. Can’t recommend them too highly.
APP were excellent from start to finish. They were diligent and helpful scoping out the works; we had four site visits to make sure what we wanted was possible. Once the work started the team were unfailingly professional, helpful, tidy, good company and willing to go the extra mile. We can't thank them enough, we are absolutely delighted with the work.
Superb service and excellent standard of work
