What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

In Westhoughton and the surrounding Bolton area, Modern Plan Insulation Ltd has built a reputation through cavity wall insulation work, including the removal of old fibreglass and the installation of spray foam and Isothane treatments on stone-built properties. Customers in several reviews describe the company as professional and knowledgeable, with Richard frequently named for visiting to assess wall suitability and provide detailed quotations, sometimes travelling considerable distances.

Reviewers often mention the thoroughness of the initial survey and the advice given over the phone and by email, with one noting that other firms quoted without measuring. The installation teams are praised for being efficient, friendly, tidy and flexible, clearing up thoroughly before finishing, and for getting on with the work without fuss. The difference in warmth is a recurring theme, with householders reporting a transformed, warmer home and lower energy bills, including a stone bungalow prepared ahead of a heat pump installation. Honesty is also highlighted, as when a spray foam treatment was found unsuitable due to rubble and was not carried out.

Richard visited twice, at quite a few miles' distance, to ascertain the wall's suitability for the spray foam treatment they offer. In the end found it wasn't suitable due to too much rubble. They could have gone ahead regardless of problems down the line. This shows integrity and professionalism. Thank you!

I recently contacted MPI to check the insulation on our property. They were really helpful and knowledgeable with their findings and of the future steps we need to take.

I recently explored this injected foam option after a cavity inspection revealed conventional insulation techniques could not be used. I was impressed with Richard. Communicative, punctual, pleasant and professional. However, I was told that foam insulation would not cause problems with my mortgage lender or insurer. However, I've since found this is potentially a significant risk if things aren't done properly. Lenders/insurers seem to be particularly averse to the use of spray foam insulation - usually deployed in lofts/attics/under-floors. I initially made the mistake of describing injected foam cavity wall insulation to my lender as 'spray foam', but apparently this is a different method so should not be confused. I felt Modern Plan Insulation should have advised me to contact my mortgage lender and insurer to ensure the process followed satisfied their requirements, so as to reduce or eliminate this risk. I have no reason to believe MPI would have done a bad job had I gone ahead with the installation. But I, like many others I'm sure, felt very reluctant to do anything that could jeopardise my mortgage/insurance. This concern is heightened by recent horror stories about botched insulation fitted under ECO4 and the Great British Insulation Scheme since 2022 causing horrendous damp and mould. I also felt the price was very high compared to more conventional cavity wall insulation techniques. I expected to have to pay a bit of a premium for the more advanced technology, but the price quoted was more like twice the price, so very hard to afford and justify. Grants for air source heat pumps are now available even if you don't have cavity wall insulation installed. My new air source heat pump has no problem heating the home to a toasty temperature. Running costs are also really reasonable (despite the lack of insulation) as I've combined it with solar and a house battery.

When it comes to cavity wall insulation there's a lot of conflicting and confusing information for consumers. Even sources such as RICS and Energy Saving Trust cannot answer all the question you have a homeowner. I came across MPI from one of the trade associations recommended by the Energy Saving Trust and highly recommend them as a supplier. As well as providing lots of advice over the phone and follow-up information by email, they visited my property to conduct a survey. Unfortunately for MPI, their survey determined that my property has old cavity wall insulation and it is therefore not cost effective to removce and replace. There was no hard sell or pressure tactics, just honest and practical advice. I really appreciated their time and happily recommend this professional and experienced business.

MPI have just completed foam cavity wall insulation on our stone built bungalow ahead of the installation of a heat pump. I can’t speak highly enough of the way they conduct business from site survey to completing the job. The two tradesmen were more or less anonymous just getting on with the job without fuss & tidying up before they finished. We have already noticed a difference in the warmth throughout the house & we are sure it will prove to be a worthwhile investment in conjunction with the heat pump.

We had old insulation removed and new foam put in over the last 2 weeks. The workmen were really efficient, friendly, thoughtful, flexible and they tidied up extremely well. A pleasure to have around…We feel that there has already been a difference in how warm our house feels. Thank you so much!
