HPE Airflow SW Ltd

HPE Airflow SW Ltd is a heat pump installer based in Plymouth, covering Plymouth and the wider South West. The business installs heat pumps, air conditioning and heating, and also provides gas and electrical work. It is run by owner Alan Carruthers, who has over twenty years in the trade, fifteen of them working specifically on heat pumps. He started out with West Country Housing. He has worked with Daikin since 2008 and is a Daikin certified installer, reference CI35. Daikin published a case study on his installation at a 1980s semi-detached house in Plymouth, and brings him in to train other firms' engineers and architects on heat pump design.

Other installation firms, including Redfern, also bring him in to train their engineers. Cornwall Council call him in to install and maintain heat pumps in their buildings. Alan Carruthers holds both the heat pump installer qualification and the design module. The company is fully insured with public liability cover. It handles government grant applications for heat pumps, including heat loss calculations, paperwork and submission. It does not carry out bathroom and toilet installations.

Plymouth homeowners have recorded positive experiences of HPE Airflow SW across a range of domestic projects. Installations of air source systems for heating and cooling feature strongly, with upstairs bedrooms and a garden office both given as completed jobs, and the resulting units are said to run as intended. The standard of workmanship attracts consistent approval, with installations described as meticulous, thoroughly checked and expertly carried out. Several accounts note reliability, noting that quotations were returned quickly, appointments were honoured and fitting was arranged flexibly around the householder.

Tidiness is a point that comes up often, the team being said to leave the property clean and orderly once finished. Politeness and professionalism, together with clear communication during the work, are likewise highlighted. One account describes a fault traced to older wiring rather than the new equipment, with the engineers returning within two days to isolate it, after which the system operated without further issue. Alan is named for his knowledge of air source units, particularly following earlier visits by other firms that had not resolved persistent problems, and the feedback also covers gas engineering alongside air conditioning work.
